Welcome to my psychiatry practice in Seattle!
I am a board-certified psychiatrist in Seattle who specializes in integrated psychiatric treatment of depression and anxiety. I earned my M.D. and Ph.D. (in pharmacology) at Seoul National University, South Korea and completed psychiatric residency training at the University of Washington. I am board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and currently a clinical faculty at the University of Washington. My previous work experiences include: working at Microsoft as a consulting psychiatrist in addition to my experiences at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, University of Washington Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic, Hall Health Mental Health Center (UW’s student mental health center) and VA addiction treatment center.
I believe that the first step for effective psychiatric treatment is to fully understand and appreciate not only the troubling symptoms, but also the person as a whole, with her/his unique strengths and challenges. We will then discuss the treatment options, and together come up with an individualized treatment plan that fits best with your goals, preferences and values. We can decide to address the symptoms with psychotherapy (“talk therapy”), medications, life style modifications (sleep, exercise, nutrition, etc.) or a combination of these modalities.
My practice draws upon a variety of evidence based psychotherapy approaches (humanistic, existential, relational psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioral). I am also familiar with the benefits and risks associated with various psychiatric medications and in certain situations, if appropriate, we can consider using medications to expedite the healing process.
Most importantly, I believe that for any treatment to be effective, it must be built upon the foundation of a genuine and trusting treatment relationship. This is a collaborative, shared effort to immerse ourselves in your experiences, and understand and construct their meanings together in a professional setting that is safe, open and supportive. Enhanced self-awareness and greater self-acceptance not only lead to the relief of emotional distress, but also allow for a greater sense of purpose and engagement in life, balanced and flexible view of yourself and others and more fulfilling relationships.
Please check the services I offer and the insurance and other policies.
